The first station in Schreiber was built at an unknown date and may have been a temporary structure. It was replaced in 1885 and then again in 1924 with the present building which remains in use by the railway.

Schreiber was named after Sir Collingwood Schreiber, an engineer and career civil servant. Schreiber was responsible for supervising the construction of the CPR and managing the various government-owned railways. It is believe that without his efforts, the CPR would never have been completed.
